BACKGROUND Almost 40 years have been already elapsed, since Arraafah Corporation was founded by the late Yassin Ahmed Kaid in 1968. Since then, Arraafah has exerted all possible efforts to continue developing its activities and operations in all aspects. Such an attentive persistence of efforts has enabled its transformation from a merely single retail pharmacy enterprise by the time of its foundation to one of the 3 top ranking importers of pharmaceutical products in Yemen. SCOPE OF WORK The company constitution has identified the areas of activity as follows: 1.Import and Distribute drugs and non-drug medical products and equipments all over the country. 2.Examine the practicability and the economic and technical viability of setting up a drug industry. If proved to be feasible - the corporation could invest in it either alone or with the participation of others. 3.Practice any other activities that are directly or indirectly related to the above. Nevertheless, the overwhelming priority and concentration was given, in previous years, to drugs with a minor share for non-drug pharmaceuticals and chemicals. But the recent 2 years have witnessed a growing interest in other medical equipment as is shown hereinafter. BRANCHES The Corporation besides its headquarters in Sanaa owns 6 branches (in Sanaa, Aden, Hodeidah, Taiz, Ibb and Mukkalla) and 7 Warehouses to perform the distribution work of products to various pharmacies and health institutions as well as to certain wholesalers who help the Corporations products to reach remote areas in the country. MANAGEMENT The Top Management is represented by a 5 members Board of Directors, chaired by Mr. Madian Yassin Ahmed Kaid, who occupies the position of The General Manager as well. In his capacity, he manages, directs and supervises the performance of various sectors, divisions, departments and a group of advisors in the field of legal affairs, planning, organization etc. The GM is assisted by a Deputy General Manager, Rafat Yassin Ahmed Kaid. OUR MISSION Arraafah Corporation undertakes to provide the local Drug Market with medicines and pharmaceuticals that conform to the local laws and regulations fall in line with the customers' needs and requirements and meet their expectations for effective and efficient treatment of diseases. To accomplish its mission, the Corporation has set down the following objectives. 1.To trace the most recent developments occurring in the medicine industry, in order to make medicines available in accordance to customers requirements and needs. 2.To provide varieties of medicinal products with distinguished international specifications at competitive prices. Contd2/- Page 2 3.To apply a quality system that conforms to ISO 9001/2000. 4.To continually develop the quality system for the purpose of improving its efficiency. 5.To communicate with customers to ensure their satisfaction concerning the products and services in meeting their needs and requirements. 6.To ensure that all employees understand and comprehend the Corporations Mission and Objectives, provided that the same shall be subjected to continuous review to assure their consistency with the quality system and customers needs. 7.To attract efficient employees and strive to develop their skills and experience through continuous training. HUMAN RESOURCE FORCE The Corporation has acquired highly professional manpower in several fields. The total number of employees exceeds 90 persons. Among them, are Managerial & Administrative Staff, Medical Representatives of Principal Companies, about 20 sales and marketing representatives, goods delivery workers, equipped with adequate vehicles(17 delivery vans). We have a professional and dedicated team that enables us to spread the name of our company and our agencies. STORAGE FACILITIES Enough storage capacity is available in Sanaa and other cities (branches). These stores are organized, operated, equipped and maintained up to international (ISO 9001-2000) standards. ACHIEVEMENT Corporation has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certification by Quality Management Institute (QMI), Canada. Corporation has achieved average annual sales turn over of more than 20 million USD during the period 2000 2007 and is enjoying an average yearly increase in sales of 10% every year. We are keeping excellent relationship with all the Government Agencies and Health Institutions and have been awarded various tenders which constitute around 40% of the total sales turn over. PARTNERS 1.Manufacturing Company: Arraafah Corporation represents 21 multinational drug manufacturing companies (like Sanofi Aventis France, GlaxoSmithKline UK, Pfizer Germany, Janssen Cilag Belgium, Bristol Myers Squibb USA, Novo Nordisk Denmark, Pierre Fabre Medicaments France, Sandoz Austria, Abbott Laboratories USA, Riyadh Pharma etc), and Companies like Bio-rad, Centronic, Boeco, Buerer, Stago (through Al-wafi group, Jordan), Orphee SA etc for Diagnostic and Equipments division. 2.Geographical Coverage of Local Market, as the Corporation is doing its best to reach a very high rate of geographical coverage so that our products could be within reach of Yemeni Population. This is done through a sound and balanced marketing strategy, that is based among other things on two pivots of distribution channels a.Through our above mentioned branches, directly to retail dealers (pharmacies and drug stores) in all main cities and most of the towns in the country. The number of such permanent clients has reached more than 500 in the year 2004. This came out with the launch of a new and very important division dealing with various medical technology equipments, dental units, laboratory in addition to reagents, chemicals and other medical supplies. This division has been equipped with a team of highly qualified specialists who are capable of managing all sorts of work in this regard, including the promotional, marketing and other tasks up to the expected levels and standards. During the past 2 years, this division had won and executed different tenders. Also, we have launched a new Division for Consumer Health Care Products dealing with Fast Moving Consumer Goods. 2.We are considering the establishment of Drug Manufacturing plant in Yemen. A feasibility study to this end is underway. If proved viable, we are thinking of seeking local entrepreneurs as well as sound international drug manufacturing companies to associate us as partners in a new company that would be formed for this purpose. 3.We are in the process of setting up of a Power Division which will include participation of various power projects in Yemen in joint venture with internationally reputed Companies.
