COMPANY BACKGROUND HISTORY Medical Center Trading Corp. began as a modest provider of pharmaceuticals and basic surgical implements to the country's medical and healthcare industries. Rodolfo Landahl, a Filipino of German ancestry, under the name Medical Center Drug Corporation, established it in 1946. In a few years, the firm was sold to Metro Drug Corp. and thereafter, in April 1970, was acquired by Mercury Drug * Mercury Group of Companies, Inc. was then established in 1972 during the time Medical Center Drug Corp. and Mercury Drug both became subsidiaries. The two companies operated independently of each other, focusing their individual resources to their own customer base. Medical Center Drug Corporation officially changed its name to Medical Center Trading Corporation (MCTC) on July 1, 1980. The intention was to underscore the difference in its business scope from that of Mercury Drug. It further paved the way for a more aggressive effort by MCTC to determine the unique needs of its own growing market. In less than five years, MCTC became a leader in the importation, distribution, and marketing of hospital, medical, dental, surgical and laboratory equipment and supplies. Also, the BMD(Brand Management Department) group is formed to address the growing needs of the industry, attends to product research and development. A Product Manager heads each Department. Today, MCTC has numerous branches in Metro Manila, Cebu City, Davao City, Iloilo City, Lipa City, San Fernando City, Pampanga, and Urdaneta City in Pangasinan. A scheme for expanding to all 13 regions of the country is soon to be implemented, aside from the Sales Representatives to service hospitals, clinics, and * remain to be a subsidiary of the Mercury Group of Companies, Inc. The BRAND MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT. MCTC has formed a marketing arm composed of Product Managers, each specializing in his/her own product line. This group is tasked to source, explore and research of various medical, hospital, surgical, dental, and laboratory products that are available in the market worldwide. After an extensive evaluation and analysis and proper documentation from the different government agencies, the products are channeled or being readied for local distribution through a well funded campaign of advertisement. The BMD are grouped into: 1. Personal & Home Health Care Division - Mr. Bienamor M. Pesa, Product Manager 2. Hospital Health Care Division - Mr. Raymund E. Estilo, Product Manager 3. Specialty Health Care Division - Mr. Gelnn Ocampo, Product Manager 4. Meridian Medical Supply Division - Ms. Corazon A. Bisquera, Product Manager 5. Medic Diagnostic Division - Ms. Thelma C. Lagrimas, Product Manager 6. Medicent/Indent - Mr. Ronald Braganza/Mr. Arnel Hinagpis - Indent Supervisors The MEDIC Laboratory and Clinic. The main function of this laboratory is to produce quality controlled diagnostic reagents such as BUN, BUA, SGOT, SGPT, Cholesterol, Orthotoluidine, Creatinine, Bilirubin and other chemistry sets. Its other function is to maintain a clinical laboratory which caters not only for Mercury Group of Companies, Inc. and its subsidiaries but also those of companies or Individuals being referred to by physicians. Services include presumptive analysis for bacteriological culture, routine urinalysis and fecalysis, blood chemistry, hematology, ECG, pregnancy, and the drugs of abuse test under the recently DOH/DDB accredited MEDIC DRUG TESTING LAB. It has an X-ray Section with an A-1 radiologist and a registered technician. Also, MEDIC conducts seminars on standardization, calibration procedures, trouble-shooting, etc. of equipment for MCTC clients. A Pathologist is hired, too, as a consultant for this section. Medicent/Indent Sales. It carries state-of-the Art innovations in measuring and computing in healthcare industry - in all medical discipline from laboratory to nuclear medicine. This department also assists clients who wish to place their orders directly to MCTC's foreign suppliers through indent basis. The most benefited clients are those government agencies with assisted loan projects from the World Bank-IBRD, USAID, ADB, EEC and the likes where its proposals cover from filing of tax exemption to the Department of Finance up to the client's warehouse. Technical and Service Department. MCTC does not end its commitment to local consumers in terms of sales, but also renders an after-sales service. It offers care facilities to all types of equipment and instruments it carries, from the smallest stethoscope to the largest X-ray machines. It is staffed with well-trained, skilled and highly efficient and competent service engineers and technicians. Most of them are even sent to our principals' service sites abroad for more intensified service training. This is most especially true for state-of-the-art equipment. HOMLESIAP. Medical Center is one of the founding members of this association which stands for HOSPITAL, MEDICAL, LABORATORY EQUIPMENT and SUPPLIES IMPORTERS' ASSOCIATION of the PHILIPPINES, INC. It is a non-profit association composed of legitimate importers in the mentioned field. It likewise aims for the members to working together through better competition to make representations with the government authorities regarding questionable imposed taxes and duties on allied imported products, to maintain free exchange of credit information among its members that will protect or guide them in decisions when a scrupulous person or establishment is applying for credit accommodation and to pursue projects and ideas that will undoubtedly benefit the members and the family as a whole.
